Pias Scarab Homecoming to Taiwan

A short video from when the head honchos of Pias Cycles and PEONFX brought two Pias Scarab prototypes in a pilgrimage to the frame's birthplace at Taiwan. Both frames are still living happy life, Acit took his 54cm prototype on our epic Baluran adventure.

Though you can see him coasting downhill in the video, I can assure you he's got a dinglecog installed on his rear hub. I swear. I can tell you that because I helped him prepared the bike. Honest, Mom.

This also marks the last installment of Josh Estey's around-the-world "Fixed Gear" video series. After going to three continents, he decided to left the infamous Surly Steamroller to his brother in Idaho where it enjoyed constant 100-plus commuting miles every week. But rest assure Josh will be back scorching the corners of the world with another bicycle. I should've at least put our shop sticker on that Steamroller before he left...

Such a delay between posts, we haven't wrote anything for at least a month! What better way to make that up with this offering from Josh Estey, who recently brought his Surly Steamroller on his latest trip to Africa. Between his tight schedule, he made this latest installment of fixed gear videos.

Sneak Peek: 2013 SRAM Red

Since its debut in 2007, SRAM Red road group established the reputation as the lightest road group at around 1.920 grams until Campagnolo's newest Super Record 11 Titanium snatched the title, being 10 grams lighter. Although Red remains the only road group who stayed with 10-speed gearing (Shimano went 11-speed with 2013's Dura Ace 9000 group, but that's another story), for the 2013 offering the Red receives a whopping weight reduction, putting the total weight at 1.670 grams.

FixedForward Jakarta's Fixed Film Festival 2011

Spotted this at FixedForwardJKT's tumblr. FixedFilmFestival is the first bicycle film festival in Indonesia mainly focusing on fixed gear movies. Along with this festival is the first screening of TRAFIK's "To Live and Ride in LA". The use of old movie sound sampling is just hillarious.

No, this is not your average I've-done-this-mad-barspinzzz-on-my-fixie-braaah video. This is full-out trials riding, done on a 700c bicycle, and yes, with a freewheel. Albeit with no brakes and helmets.

Fixing - A Video by Josh Estey

Josh Estey, a good old friend who also happens to be a producer, photojournalist, and avid cyclist (if I don't want to call him a maniac), recently made this video starring his two daughters. According to him, "This film is a reminder to all those who ride that it's still just a bike. Now get off your computer and go ride."

A fixed gear doesn't define who you are, it's just another form of drivetrain normally found on bicycles. It's not about what you ride, it's all about how you ride. Xenia reminds us that riding a bicycle is all about having fun in a simple way.

We missed seeing a tall dude riding a black fixed Steamroller on Jakarta's crazy traffic on a daily basis since now he resides in Bali. Thumbs up, Josh!
